Welcome to Scholar Green Nursery
Nursery is the first step of the Early Years Foundation Stage and the first stage of your child’s education. We cater for children aged 2 years up until they are 4 years old and ready for the transition into a Reception class. We follow the statutory framework to ensure your children are safe, happy and develop as life long learners. To meet the needs of all children we closely follow the ratio guidance. For children aged two there is at least one member of staff for every four children and for children three and over there is at least one member of staff for every thirteen children.
Our Nursery Team
At Scholar Green Nursery we aim to provide a happy, secure, friendly, stimulating environment where children learn and have fun together, supported by an enthusiastic and professional staff team.
Our Nursery is led by qualified Early Years staff:
Mrs Yarwood- EYFS lead/ SENCO
Miss Brock is our 2 year old phase leader. They are called the 'Raindrops'. Miss Brock is also the deputy of our wrap aournd care club, 'The Den'.
Miss Aitken is our Nursery 1 phase leader. They are called the 'Sunbeams'. Miss Aitken is also the manager of our wrap aournd care club, 'The Den'.
Mrs Cooke is our Nursery 2 phase leader. They are called the 'Rainbows'. Mrs Cooke also works in our wrap aournd care club, 'The Den'.
Mrs Copestake is our Nursery teaching assistant and she works with our Nursery 2 children, the 'Rainbows'.
Miss Murphy is our Nursery teaching assistant and she works with the Nursery 1 children, the 'Sunbeams', and also works in the 'The Den' holiday club.
Our Nursery
Our Nursery class is made up of E1 (our 2 year olds) N1 (our children who have just turned 3 this school year) and N2 (our 3-4 year olds going to Reception this September). Activities are planned and delivered to support your child’s current level of development and to encourage them to be creative and independent learners whilst following their own unique interests. Children are assigned a key worker, who support your child's learning journey within the Nursery day.
This is a time for new beginnings, making friends and learning lots of wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing. In the Nursery, we aim to build upon all the good work you have already done with your child during their early years. Developing your child’s Personal, Social and Emotional skills will help them to feel confident and to achieve their full potential in all areas of learning.
Each day the children will listen to a variety of story books and nursery rhymes, which may be linked to our author of term or over arching theme. Information about themes and daily routines are detailed in our newsletter which is sent home at the start of the half term and also uploaded to our class page. Sharing stories is an integral part of the early years and enables children thrive. Reading to children allows them to develop many life long skills such as holding a conversation, storytelling, role play and building on their vocabulary. Nursery rhymes are a great way to enhance children's cognitive development, memory capabilities and vocabulary. A list of nursery rhymes has been added to our page should you wish to share them with your child at home.
During their time in the early years, children will have a Tapestry account which is their online learning journey. Using this platform, we can share with you the learning that your child has engaged with at Nursery and any WOW moments! You can also upload things that your child has done at home which we can then talk about in the classroom. Alongside our school text messaging service, any important information will also be sent out via a memo on the Tapestry app.
Outdoor Area
Here at Scholar Green we are lucky enough to have a nursery with a large outdoor area which children can access in all weather! As we are outdoors every day we recommend children bring wellies, coats, sun cream and hats dependent on the weather. We also advise a spare set of clothing as we sometimes have messy play. Please can any clothing and footwear be clearly labelled with your childs name. Our outdoor learning spaces are interlinked with our Reception class, helping children to make a seamless transition into our school.
Come and see us in action
We recommend parents and children come to visit the nursery before they start so they can become familiar with the environment and so that any questions can be asked prior to your child starting the nursery.
If you would like to look around, please do not hesitate to contact us to make an appointment.
Don’t forget to check our school facebook page to see what we have been getting up to!
