Religious Education in Action

During lessons we encourage the children to reflect, empathise, question, investigate and where appropraite, make connections between religious beleifs. We explore many different aspects of religion and delve into the beliefs and practices underpinning Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hindu Dharma. Respecting the views of believers and each other, is a crucial aspect of our spiritual and moral education. Our aim is to provide opportunities for our pupils to engage, encounter, enquire and respond with sensitivity, thought and understanding.

This year in school, we have already had lots of exciting learning happening. All children have begun the school year learning about Christianity. All pupils have created a 'hand of 5' for Christainity which contains key important facts about that religion. The children's 'Hand of 5' will continue with them as they progress throughout the school. Year 1 have been exploring which stories are important to them and have then looked at the holy book for Christians, the Bible. Year 2 have been discussing how Christians would describe God. Year 3 have been looking into the holy trinity. Year 4 have been discussing what a belief is and thinking about the different beliefs they hold. They have then thought about how the Bible shapes Christain's lives. In Year 5, pupils have been reviewing their Christainity knowledge. In Year 6, children have been considering some questions that the resurrection of Jesus might raise. They have been looking at evidence from the Bible and discussing why resurrection is important belief for Christians.
