Geography Subject Leader - Mrs H Hancock
Geography teaching at Scholar Green Primary School has a wide application to everyday life, teaching the children to enjoy learning about the world and to have a better understanding of how people live in different locations.
The Geography Curriculum intends to:
- inspire pupil's curiosity to discover more about the world
- enable children to know about different locations in the world
- develop in children the skills of interpreting information
- help children to underatnd the human and physical geograpgy of a place
Scholar Green Primary School currently upholds The Geography Quality Mark Silver
Geography Association:
"We were pleased to see the detail in your intent statements, included the use of GIS and the word curiosity and also that you clearly set out some appropriate concepts around which geography work could be framed. You are certainly providing a secure place for pupils to be, confident that they will be exposed to some interesting geographical topics and enquiry.
The focus on progression was pleasing to see, as was a broad Enquiry focus for the work that is planned. There is some good persuasive writing on the topic of deforestation in Brazil in the evidence.
You are making good use of what looks and sounds like a pleasant campus with fields, woodland and a stream for local studies. This enables regular fieldwork which can become embedded in the curriculum.
We were pleased to see the involvement in EcoSchools with some evidence that it is finding its way into the curriculum."
