Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Date: 8th Feb 2016 @ 6:12pm

Happy Chinese New Year! It is the year of the Monkey and today is when Chinese New Year is being celebrated. We had a visitor, Yuming Tang, come into school to tell us all about how it is celebrated in Chinese households.

He brought in lots of objects, decorations and items of clothing to show us their traditions. We got to hold and touch them to see what they were like up close. He explined what things symbolised and their importance. We also got to speak some Cantonese- learnign phrases like 'Happy New Year', hello, goodbye and thank you. We also practiced coutning to 10. Thank you to Tang for coming in again and bringing in all his fantastic objects. We all found it reallt interesting and FUN!

Tang also brought in some of his Lion heads which is used for the Lion dancing. We played loud instruments whilst some of us made the lions move. We had to shake it's head and lift it to the beat of the music.

We really enjoyed today so we shall continue learning about different traditions throughout the week.
